Meet the Women Making Major Waves in Today’s Spirits and Hospitality Industry.

There is no better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than by paying homage to a few trail-blazing and immensely talented women who continue to break barriers in today’s spirits and hospitality industry. From a breakout reality TV winner, to small business owners, online content creators, and emerging authors, discover those breaking new ground in their crafts.

Megha Duggal
President and Founder of Broadway Spirits, Duggal wanted to create a unique wine and spirits retail experience that she hadn’t seen in other stores. Duggal’s retail background helped her to design the type of curated, in-person and online environment she sought as a customer.

In 2014, her wine and liquor store, Broadway Spirits, was born. The store has a welcoming, friendly environment, and is staffed by a passionate, dedicated team of customer service representatives, sales associates, and
professional delivery drivers.

In 2019, just five years after opening, Broadway Spirits landed a spot on Beverage Dynamics magazine’s “Top 100” of the country’s best retailers. In July of last year, the store was once again featured on its 2020 list. [Sourced: Broadway Spirits]

Ivy Mix
A James Beard Award-nominated bartender who is credited with popularizing mezcal in the United States. Mix is the head bartender and co-owner of the James Beard Award nominated bar Leyenda in Brooklyn, New York and later co-founded Speed Rack alongside Lynnette Marrero.

Most recently, Mix became the author, of Spirits of Latin America: A Celebration of Culture & Cocktails, with 100 Recipes, which explores the history and culture of Latin American spirits in this stunningly photographed travelogy; including 100+ irresistible cocktails featuring tequila, rum, pisco, and more. Thirsty Bartenders
Thirsty Bartenders is the lovechild of a friendship between two bartenders, Samantha and Vianca, who have been colleagues since 2012. After gaining local notoriety for their showmanship and natural chemistry, they decided to take their show on the digital route and share their talents with the internet. Their videos cover all things drinking from bartending tips, to how-to’s, recipes, product reviews, drinking games and challenges.

Sam and Vianca will make you laugh, and more importantly will make you a better mixologist. HIATUS has partnered with them on several occasions, most recently collaborating with the duo at 3 South Florida Taco and Tequila Spots. Click here to check out the video. Ariel Fox
Fox was just crowned the winner of FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen: Rookie vs Veterans,” and is an incredibly accomplished chef – having been an innovator within some of the most prestigious kitchens in the industry. She helped to launch several nationally renowned restaurants including STK, Harding’s and ACME. The talented chef even “took flight” when she joined the OTG Management team, where she helped revolutionize and elevate airport dining concepts for the $100 million United Airlines Terminal C at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Today, Ariel is the proud Concept Executive Chef at Dos Caminos, where she creates award-winning menus for appreciative diners. Her culinary philosophy stems back to her teenage years in Northern California, where she spent some time working for the small, family-run Mariquita Farm in Watsonville. It was here that the teenaged Ariel was introduced to sustainable food movement pioneer, Alice Waters, a local restaurateur and frequent customer of the San Francisco Farmers Market. Waters sparked Ariel’s profound appreciation for organic agriculture and seasonal food. As a result, she’s never lost that passion for fresh, seasonal ingredients—which remains the cornerstone of her celebrated cuisine. [Sourced: Wikipedia]

Gabi Porter
Gabi Porter is a New York-based documentary photographer and barfly, whose work is regularly found on the pages of the NY Post. She specializes in taking photos at bars and restaurants of all kinds, and has made a career traveling over the world eating, drinking and capturing those moments through her lens. She is the photographer for Cuban Cocktails: 100 Classic and Modern Drinks (Sterling Epicure, 2015), and contributed photographs for Korea town: a Cookbook (Clarkson Potter, 2016).

Normally you’ll find Gabi out capturing images of the rock-stars of the hospitality world; working her magic at the industry’s highest profile events. But during this pandemic, we caught up with Gabi while quarantining at home with her Mom, where she pushed her boundaries and managed to do a complete cocktail shoot for HIATUS Tequila in her living room!
